What is a content strategy for teacherpreneurs?

Content is everywhere and is the heartbeat of every Teacher business. It can be confusing to hear buzzwords like content marketing, create quality content, content strategy, content pillars, etc. Without clear definitions and a strong understanding, you’re just spinning your wheels. This blog post will answer what is a content strategy for teacherpreneurs and how will it help your business.

What is a content strategy for teacherpreneurs?

A content strategy is the blueprint for everything you create. It’s not how you will marketing your content (ex: Pinterest, Instagram, etc), it is focused on the why. Why this content (topic/language/direction) and why is it targeted to this particular audience? What purpose does it serve?

Teachers have so much going on throughout the day, so it’s necessary to be strategic with the content you’re creating, the guidelines your content will follow, and the cadence in which it will be created.

Other things to think about:

  • How often will it get updated?
  • How will success be measured?

It may seem overwhelming to think about these things in one swoop, it’s ok to take your time! Let me be real here, there is absolutely no way I would be able to manage Nearpod’s social media and influencer marketing, Flocabulary’s social media and influencer marketing, and my own content for my own business (Teacher Marketing Academy), if I did not have a strategy for each one. Teacher Marketing is a team one one, just like you. By planning ahead, we can be more prepared for the unexpected. By thinking through your content ahead of time, you have a higher chance to batch and plan ahead so you can live the life you know, love, and deserve.

Why are you creating content?

Knowing why you are creating the content will help you have a clear focus for why it’s worth your time, and the readers. What purpose will the content serve? What is the overall goal? What type of teacher are you speaking to?

Before you create any type of content, you should know why you’re creating it. This step cannot be skipped, as the rest of your process hinges on it.

When are you creating content and how often?

Creating a content creation cadence will help you stick to your goals, just like any habit. Use your favorite management system to make this happen. Look at the channels that mean the most to you, decide how often on each of those channels you want to post, and take it a step ahead to look at how the work from one channel can be repurposed to support another.

How will the content stray true to your brand?

You have a unique value and positioning when talking to your audience. Own that. Don’t try to imitate someone else because you feel you need to keep up with their plan. That their plan not yours. How you routinely talk to your audience about your passions, interests, and ideas that can serve them? That branding is key.

Now that you know what a content strategy is, you’re probably like – wait. Amber, I’ve heard you talk about Content Marketing, too

Content Marketing is the campaign itself, that is the execution of the content. It’s how you market your content. It’s the marketing strategy of using the content you created to engage your audience, potential teachers, that will generate leads to your business (or goal).
