How to make money from your teaching blog

Can teaching blogs make money? You’re creating content but unsure when the cash starts flowing in? This post will share different ways your teaching blog can earn money. Blogs allow us to share stories, attract and convince in entirely new ways.  Most importantly, it offers a very personal way of engaging people who look for answers, solutions or education.

Do teaching blogs make money? Here’s how:

Google Adsense for your teaching blog

Google Ads are display advertisements placed around your site as a way to easily collect revenue from each click. Google Ads can provide an an additional revenue stream as you diversify your income. An advantage to use ads is that it requires minimal effort from your end. All you need to do is set up the account and connect it to your website.

Not all bloggers enjoy having ads on their sites since it can inundate your readers. To compensate for this, you can choose exactly where you want ads placed on your site and you can also exclude ads from specific parts of your website. Organize your ad placements so that you can collect additional revenue, in the way that makes the most sense for your website.

Promote digital products through social selling

Are you a seller on teachers pay teachers or have digital products? How are you driving traffic to your paid products in an authentic way? Begin by telling a story with your TPT products. Solve a problem and pain point for your audience and let your product be the solution to the problem. By solving for problems, you are positioning yourself as the expert.

Consider providing a free download to accompany your story in addition to a paid resource to show the quality of your work.

Do you have a paid product that is doing well? This means that teachers are interested to know more. Consider creating a series of blog posts abut the topic of the paid resource in order to accelerate the income that product receives.

Reminder: Solving a problem is just one blog post idea, there are tons more…but we’ll get to that later! 🙂

Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate marketing is a way to earn commission by promoting other people’s products. There are many affiliate programs out there, but here’s a couple and how to potentially use them.

Like to Know it:

Like to know it is a social-sharing-based shopping service that allows users to instantly access and purchase whatever their favorite influencers are wearing or recommending.

Ideas with using Like to Know it:

  • My favorite teaching outfits from the week
  • My favorite fall teaching sweaters
  • Comfy shoes for teaching

Amazon Influencer

Create a personalized storefront of all of your favorites so that when a teachers asks for a recommendation about a specific topic, you can direct them to a curated list of that topic, and in turn earn a commission for every sale. Here are some ideas to blog about as a way to drive sales:

  • My virtual teaching must have
  • Top 5 math manipulatives for the elementary classroom
  • Back to school decor list

Here’s a tip, when you’re just starting out, it’s hard for teachers to fall in love with you unless you’re teaching them something. Why should they venture to your site when there are so many? What value do you provide?

Sponsored Content

Sponsored content can drive bigger revenue since companies are paying you to promote their product/service on your website.

Sponsored content for teachers might take some time to receive some bites. What you can do in the meantime is ensure you have a media kit ready to roll when asked for prices. As someone who works in influencer marketing, I am instantly excited to work wit someone when the influencer is organized with a media kit since it’s for-shadowing that this partnership will be organized.

Second, ensure you have a consistent blogging calendar. When scouring the internet for teachers I want to work with, if I see that their last blog post was two months ago, then I know they’re not tending to their garden and that website might not get the most ideal traffic. If you grow your blog, you’re opening yourself up to more opportunities for companies to partner with you. An Instagram post + IG Story for X price, now becomes an Instagram post, IG Story, Blog post + pinned to pinterest for $XXX price.

Email

This one might not make the most sense but disclaimer, I LOVE social media, but what if Instagram and Facebook one day deactivate you account? How are you going to reach out to your followers the next day? Even if you’re not ready to send an email yet, begin collecting their email addresses so that you can provide an additional channel to communicate with your audience.

Create a pop-up on your website, ask for an email in order to receive a free download from your site, or simply add a CTA in the middle of your website…. like this…
