How to Create a Social Media Strategy as a Teachers Pay Teachers Seller

Hey everyone! Talking social media and content marketing strategy is my jam. As a former Teachers Pay Teachers seller (that hit TWO milestones in less than 3 years…yes that means +50k) and showcasing my products on the #Teachergram for 3 years, I thought I knew it all. Then, my knowledge evolved after spending 4 years at an ed-tech company that sharpened my skills.

I can’t believe I haven’t thought to share my secrets to planning with you all! I’m all about that #hustle mentality and empowering others to run at their passions.

Social media is already noisy, so it’s time to focus on your content strategy. Once you figure out what you’re posting, how do you stay on top of the seemingly endless content creation, posting, and interaction?

Creating a social media calendar for your business is frustrating and overwhelming, but with some thoughtful planning and a block of time, it’s possible to plan a month’s worth of successful social media content in a short(ish) span. I’ve perfected my non-perfect ever evolving process over 6 years and today, I’m walking you through my step-by-step plan I use to tackle social media content planning.

Check out the video below for the skinny on my social media content strategy – if you prefer to read it – I’ve added it below!

I hope this video inspired you to kickstart your content planning so that you’re more focused and empowered to create the quality content your audience desires from you.

Why planning is important

If you are planning in advance, you are giving yourself a regular cadence that will provide a steady stream of content to keep you relevant to you audience. It’s also going to help you map out time sensitive content.

The last thing you want is to look at your calendar and realize an important event is tomorrow, you have a TPT product that pairs perfectly – and you forgot to promote and maximize those sales.

Having a calendar in place allows see what’s coming in advance.

Also – you can do everything, but not all the things. What channels are most important to you and why? You don’t need 100% effort on every channel as a team of 1 or even 2.

How do I decide what to post?

To figure out exactly what to post, start your social media scheduling by outlining your content buckets.

Create content buckets

Content buckets are categories of social media posts. They go beyond labels like photo, link, or article – they outline what kind of value  you’re offering your readers. Potential content buckets might include:

  • Blog posts (Twitter/Pinterest)
  • Holidays
  • Teacher sentiment
  • Big theme campaigns
  • Engagement fillers
    • Teacher Tips
    • Quotes
  • SELL: What product have I created that I need to update in order to promote this month & what new products or curations can we make?

For me, I also look at what big company pushes the brand I works for is attempting to amplify and create a specific separate campaign strategy on top of these buckets – more on that later if you’re interested.

The power of routine content

By batching similar types of content, your audience knows what to expect from you and the type of content you create. Your audience will look forward to this type of content and keep you at the top of their feed since they keep coming back.

As a plus when ideating, you know exactly you need to plan for which creates a lower mental life for you and gives you content when you’re feeling a little stuck.

PSA: Some of your favorite teacherpreneurs are already doing this! Notice a particular influencer (or 10) post quotes, wallpapers, desktop wallpapers, or a reel? With 4 weeks in a month, they only have to think of 4 quotes, create, batch, and schedule!

An organized plan is an easy(ish) to execute plan

The goal for this blog is not to teach you how to create the posts, this is all about mapping out and ideating in advance, as well as itemizing what you already have to effectively promote your hard work.

It’s important to keep in mind that if we want teachers to buy your resource and use it, not only do you need to share the product the day of to celebrate the holiday, but you should be promoting it well in advance, and that means planning to promote.
