Vocabulary paint chips are not my first project, but I am very proud of these Colorful Words packet.
I stole was given paint swatches from a local hardware store. I wanted 10 packets so I made sure and took asked for 10 of whatever color paint swatch I wanted. As teachers, we are all about saving money and what’s better than free?
This was a very tedious project. I picked a word such as “bad” and wrote about 10 synonyms for bad. I did this for quite a few words.
In hindsight, I would have saved my time by printing chosen words on labels and sticking them on the paint swatch.
The only thing I had to buy was the binder rings to keep them all in place.
I hope to use this for a writing workshop or keep one at a table group for the students to reference!
See binder rings for a reasonable price below:
These Vocabulary paint chips are are great project for first year teachers because it is so cheap and can be a GREAT classroom tool!
This idea has been circulating around Pinterest for awhile.
I had a huge chunck of paint chips as you can see in the picture above.
I posted this picture to my instagram,

This is just a glimpse of the finished project! I wrote the most commonly used word on the side.
I keep a few of the colorful word swatches in table caddies and the rest on my “Write Board”
How do you encourage colorful writing in your classroom?
Ideas are always welcome.
