The hustle and grind of working on your own business leads to burn. How do you manage to ride the wave of productivity when it occurs, and keep yourself motivated when you’re feeling uninspired? Here are 5 ways to recharge when you’re feeling unmotivated and what you can do about it.
1. Change locations and take a break
Do you ever feel that the monotony of returning to the exact same location you’ve been working day after day leads to a feeling of resentment? SAME. As much as I enjoy my set up, feeling of seeing the same view creates a sense of restlessness. Remember where you are most productive at all times, but sometimes moving to a new spot can kickstart a different angle of creativity.
2. Organize your thoughts on a list
The feeling of the never ending to-do list can create a feeling of deer in headlights. Where do you even begin and how do you choose which task is most important for your business? Sometimes it’s the feeling of having all of these thoughts in your heard that makes it feel unmanageable, which is creating a system to organize your ideas will help you allocate work time to complete each task.
I use Asana for my daily to-do list, as well we Airtable to plan/organize future content. Both are website and app based so that I can safely place any new ideas somewhere to be stored when I’m ready.
3. Complete some easy wins to bring good energy
Forcing ourselves to complete the ‘bigger tasks’ when we’re not in the flow leas to a high chance of low quality work. In order to kickstart the vibe you need, complete all those little tasks that will bring you some joy and get your mind right. Want a new notebook to excite you, purchase it! Want to design some quick Pinterest Pins and schedule them out – get to pinning!
I keep a smaller task list as an Asana board and pull from there when I want to feel productive but might not have the creative energy to tackle a bigger project
Although I do feel that complete the bigger tasks will help you have piece of mind, it’s a different story when you find yourself unmotivated. Bring in the good energy with some W’s.
4. Schedule time off so that your brain can relax
Say it with me. ‘I don’t need to work 24/7 to be successful’. Sometimes the most productive thing you can do is relax. Find what allows you to turn off your business brain and allows your mind to wander. For me, it’s Orange Theory Fitness, the beach, and delving into a thriller book.
Find your thing and incorporate that into your work routine to help you relax.
5. Tap into your community
It’s called social media for a reason. Finding like-minded people that can support you when you need to be kept afloat is such a need for entrepreneurs. This is your sign to reach out to people and step outside your comfort zone if you do not have a support system, yet. Chances are, those entrepreneurs will be just as thirsty for support as you.
