Vision Board and Goal Setting with your Loved Ones

Imagine this: A shared vision that merges your personal and professional aspirations, creating a powerhouse synergy in your journey together. As you navigate the hectic world of teaching and running your own business, syncing up with your partner on dreams and goals isn’t just a bonus—it’s a catalyst for success.

In this blog post, I’m your guide to understanding why aligning your visions isn’t just about harmony in personal life, but a strategic move for your professional endeavors too. Think of it as a brainstorming session where your individual passions and business goals intertwine for a shared narrative.

Part One: Individual Reflections

It’s so important to take the time to pause and reflect on your previous year. Before the scissors and magazines come out, take a moment to reflect on what has happened in your life in the past year.

Individual Reflection Questions

  1. What did you accomplish?
  2. What did you try and fail at?
  3. What did you do that made you proud this year?

Part Two: Couple Reflections

This activity can be such a productive conversation with your partner. Reflecting on your journey as a couple in the past year is an enriching exercise that allows each other to celebrate achievements, acknowledge challenges, and embrace the lessons learned. Here are some thoughtful prompts to guide us in this reflection:

Couple Reflection Questions for the previous year

  • What were our greatest achievements as a couple in the past year?
  • What were the challenges we faced together, and how did we overcome them?
  • What lessons have we learned individually and as a couple?
  • What aspects of our relationship have strengthened, and how can we maintain this positive momentum?
  • What are we grateful for as a couple from the past year?

Couple Reflection Questions for looking towards the new year

  • What adventures or experiences do we want to explore together in the coming year?
  • What improvements or changes would we like to make in our relationship?
  • What personal goals or milestones do we aim to achieve individually and how can we support each other?
  • What habits or practices do we want to incorporate to enhance our relationship?
  • What are our top priorities as a couple for the upcoming year?

Taking account of your successes will help you understand what you need to build on. Use this time to reflect on your answers and see where y’all are aligned or misaligned. Have conversations with how you can reach individual and shared goals together.

Discussing where to go next after reflection

Next: THINK ABOUT THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO TAKE YOUR LIFE NEXT.

  • One thing many people forget is that you are definitely in control of your life. If you don’t enjoy something in your life, you can change it.
  • What is an affirmation that can support you with your goals?

THEN: WHAT DO YOU WANT TO CHANGE?

No matter who you are, where you are or how successful you are, everyone knows at least ONE THING they want to change about themselves.

The things you are unhappy with are the key to determining where you want to go next. Once you understand exactly what you want to change, you can do the real work figuring out HOW you will change it.

Part 3: Define your vision board couple’s categories

Life has many areas that you can work on, so it’s also important to decide what part of your life together you want to focus on.

Here are some life categories you can add to your couple’s vision board:

  • Relationships and family
  • Career and business
  • Health and wellness
  • Education
  • Spirituality
  • Material possessions
  • Finances
  • Hobbies and fun

We chose to break ours into four categories:

  1. Love, Friendships, and Family
  2. Career, Business, Wealth, and Prosperity
  3. Spirituality, Mental Health, and Growth
  4. Fun and Adventure

Part 4: Create your vision board!

Since you’ve worked through your visions with your partner, you should know which magazines to snag! I recommend checking extra magazines from your area, free magazines at restaurants, and asking your friends.

If you prefer to save some money, try a Canva Template to add images. You can save as your laptop desktop and print copies for your room.
