Why you’re not consistent with your online business

There’s a cycle amongst TPT Sellers. You start off showing up consistently on social media and coming out the gates strong with a ton of content and products. You’re in a hyper-productive groove until it wears off and your accounts get ghosted until a new feeling of invigoration hits you and the cycle repeats. Does this sound like you? Here are reasons why you’re not consistent with your online business. Take note of these so that you can overcome the common errors.

Why you’re not consistent with your online business (& how to change that)

You’re losing time while in online communities

Every channel serves it purpose but if used incorrectly, you end up losing massive productivity time. Acknowledge what purpose each channel can serve for you. For Facebook Groups, what are you hoping to gain from those interactions and how much time do you really need for that to happen?

Try using Facebook Groups like you would a smoothie shop. Do you need to go to the smoothie shop everyday? Nope. When you go often though, you’re more likely to interact with similar people and that’s how connections are made. If a group is not the vibe you’re seeking, don’t hesitate to leave so that your energy flows in the direction that will make you the most happy.

You’re falling victim to the social media black hole

How many of y’all say you’re working but are actually mindlessly scrolling social media. It’s ok, it happens to the best of us. There are a few ways to solve for this that will help you feel more productive…

  • Answer DMs on your laptop – this will help you get through your DMs faster and eliminate the desire to scroll
  • Set a timer – The caveat here is to actually stick with it
  • Check into social at most three times a day (morning, afternoon, evening)
  • In the picture to the right I was super open about taking a social media detox, so that I could return refreshed with renewed creativity. Keep in mind that there can be long-term effects if you are not active on your accounts, so use your best judgment when detoxing.

You’re not blocking time to work

Busy does not always mean productive. Let me say that again. Busy does not always mean productive. It’s easy to fall victim to what is fun to do, or run in the direction of the quick idea that you have, that you forget to block off time for what actually makes money for your business.

For example, I’m constantly talking about marketing but you have to also carve out time to create your TPT products. As for marketing, decide what is your core minimum and plan for that so you’re staying consistent.

    You’re giving leftover energy

You’re juggling so many different spinning plates that you feel like that’s all you can handle at the moment. Trust me, I feel that. This isn’t to say you’re not doing enough. I’m asking you to think about your productivity times.

When do you feel the most productive?

For me it’s without a doubt the mornings. I know that if I force myself to stop scrolling social media so late and get a good night’s sleep, I can work on Teacher Marketing Academy in the morning. That hour and a half block of time is hands down 100% more productive than if I were to work in the evening. I recognize myself and work within that.

Instead of dedicated an entire day on your weekend to work, how can you batch a small subset of time in order to crank out what you need? Last week I spent 1.5 hours on Sunday filming 3 YouTube videos. I didn’t edit these videos, but I set my content up for success by batching the like-minded tasks.
