Okay teacher, it sounds like you’re in the creative rut of deciding what to sell on TPT. You know you want to either start a TPT store or create a new line of TPT products, but you haven’t yet navigated the ‘what’. In this blog post, I’ll provide some ideas to help you decide what to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers.
What are you already creating for your classroom?
Once of the easiest ways to determine what you should sell on TPT is to repurpose what you are already creating for your classroom. Here’s the caveat… Do not simply repurpose you school’s curriculum. This is a huge red flag, and not to mention a legal discussion with you, the curriculum publisher, and your district. Just don’t do it. What original teaching resources are you creating that could then become TPT ready.
- What lesson plans are you creating from scratch?
- Did you create any systems that save you time?
- What management strategies have you created that others would benefit from?
- Have you created mini-activities have helped your students?
What products are selling well and can you create more of that?
Look at your TPT analytics and see what is selling well in order to capitalize on that excitement. Can you create a holiday version? What about version No.2? Another way to look at this is, how can you take the same framework and apply it to another subject?
- Can you create a second version of the product?
- Can you make a seasonal theme of the product?
- What add-ons can you sell that will compliment the product?
What blog posts and teacher tips via instagram have done well on your pages?
If your store hasn’t yet taken off, take a look at other content you’ve created and ask yourself how you can frame the concept into a product that you can sell. Can you create a way for teachers who want to take on the idea to purchase a turn-key product to implement that idea right away with minimal setup?
Use blog content strategies to find product idea
I wrote this blog post about never running out of a content idea and the same tactics can be used to help you ideate product ideas.
Define a product line that will set you apart
Some of the best products on TPT are from original creators that invented an entirely new concept. To be able to ideate that originality will give you an edge amongst the rest. It will also bring more people to your store because there is awareness of you being the first. When building your products, try and create a way to set your product apart so that you can stand out from the crowd.
Have you decided what to sell on Teachers Pay Teachers?
Hopefully, this post helped give you some ideas to dig yourself out of the creative rut. Creativity definitely ebbs and flows (I know it does for me, haha). But if you can create systems in place to support yourself when that happens, then you’ll be able to keep truckin’ along.
