Yes, I know I am only supposed to blog about one book but I just couldn’t help it this time! They were both too great 🙂

I chose {The Butterfly} by Patricia Polacco &
{Star of Fear, Star of Hope} by Joe Hoestlandt
The Butterfly is set in the Nazi era. Monique lives in a small French village and thinks she has a ghost in her attic. The ghost happens to be a young Jewish girl who had been hiding from the Nazi’s in her very own home. The two grow a strong bond, and are ultimately forced to flee from the country to save her dear friend and her friend’s family.
Star of Fear, Star of Hope is about a young girl named Helen whose best friend, Lydia is forced to wear a Star of David on her jacket. The night of Helen’s birthday, Lydia sleeps over. While Helen’s parents treat work, strangers tap on a neighbor’s door, calling out strange passwords and looking for shelter. The Nazi’s are arresting Jews. Lydia asks to go home to her family which infuriates Helen since it is her birthday. Her last words are, “Lydia you are not my friend anymore!”
She never sees Lydia again.
As the year pass, Helen wishes with all of her heart that Lydia has survived.
